Basic Food Hygiene: CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering

For those whose work involves handling or preparing food, it covers all you need to know about basic food hygiene.   

The qualification will cover:   

• Legislation   
• Food safety hazards   
• Temperature control   
• Refrigeration, chilling & cold holding   
• Cooking, hot holding & reheating   
• Food handling
• Principles of safe food storage

Child Protection

This course will familiarise all participants with a working knowledge of local child protection procedures and guidelines. This is a one day course targeted at those staff that have a frontline responsibility for the protection and safeguarding of children and is delivered by the Bristol Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB).

Paediatric First Aid

The course is aimed at staff working with children who need to be qualified and meet current Ofsted requirements and/or those interested in paediatric first aid. The course objectives are to equip participants with a comprehensive range of skills to enable them to respond calmly and confidently in the event of a child becoming unwell or injuring themselves. On successful completion you will be issued a Paediatric First Aid certificate valid for three years.

Paediatric First Aid for Working Outdoors

This 3 session Ofsted approved training is suitable for people who have an interest in the practical application of first aid when working outside. Standard requirements for Paediatric First Aid training will be covered, as well as adaptations necessary for the outdoors. This training is suitable for anyone taking a Level 3 Forest School Leader qualification. On successful completion you will be issued a Paediatric First Aid certificate valid for three years.

Domestic Abuse Awareness

This important course which directly addresses a key objective within the Bristol Children and Young People's Plan: to raise awareness in the children's workforce of the damaging effects of domestic abuse.

Participants will gain knowledge of the facts and figures around domestic abuse, including definitions, incidence and the relevant legislation. Most importantly, they will be able to develop an understanding of how domestic abuse can affect children's well being and development. Finally, the session will also give participants the opportunity to explore different ways to practically support parents and children affected by domestic abuse.

Essential Counselling Skills

Facilitated by Relate, this very popular, practical and enjoyable 5 session course introduces essential counselling skills and helps you apply them to the situations you encounter in your work.  By the end of the course you will have been introduced to some counselling theories, learnt seven key skills, and be confident that you can apply these skills to make a real difference in your communication with others.
  
By the end of this seminar learners will be able to:

  • Name three concepts from systemic theory and three principles from person centred counselling;
  • Name the seven basic counselling skills and demonstrate, by their practice, their relevance to their workplace setting; 
  • Comment on some of the similarities and differences in working with children, young people, and adults;
  • Show how creative techniques can enhance one's ability to hear people and facilitate change.
