Eureka! Art Exhibition for Universal Children's Day
Eureka! The National Children's Museum will be displaying art
created by children from Italy, Albania and Yorkshire as part of "I
Know My Rights" an international children's art exhibition
dedicated to children and their rights.
Launching on 20 November, Universal Children's Day, "I Know My
Rights" will include drawings by children from Eureka! Nursery, the
Public Orphanage of Scutari, Albania, and Tata-o la Casa degli
Elementi, a family resort in Bergamo, Italy. 20 November marks the
day on which the United Nations Assembly adopted the Declaration of
the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights
of the Child, in 1989. Each picture depicts one of the rights
included in the Declaration.
Eureka! will be displaying the pictures, each depicting one of
the Rights of the Child, along the glass exterior wall from 20
November to 4 December 2014.
Leigh-Anne Stradeski, Eureka! Chief Executive said "Universal
Children's Day is a global opportunity to remind ourselves of our
duties and responsibilities to the children in our lives, and
indeed around the world. Every child should expect certain rights,
and for those not able to speak out for themselves it is our duty
to make those demands on their behalf. The 'I Know My rights'
project includes some truly emotive drawings, done by children from
very different backgrounds. We're incredibly proud to be able to
display these artworks, and appreciative of the reminder of our
duty to all children".
The project is inspired by the work of Annulliamo la Distanza,
an Italian charity committed to fighting hunger, disease and other
hardships that are threatening the future of children around the
